MORE COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES
Hi everyone. There are a few more opportunities that have come up for you to be able to earn community service hours.
SPIRIT WEEK is all next week -- Monday through Friday.
For every day that you participate, you can earn 3 service hours. Please stop by my room (5102) OR Mrs. Cardenas's room (2109) EACH DAY you dress for each event and we will sign your form. These must be signed daily so that we can verify your participation. You can earn 15 hours throughout the whole week and you will be helping raise funds for all of your 8th grade activities!!
On Wednesday, December 6, we will be having a Curriculum Showcase involving all of the neighbor elementary schools, our middle school, and our high school. The event will take place at Hialeah Gardens High School in the cafeteria at 5:30pm. It ends at 8pm, but you can leave anytime after 6:30pm depending on how much time you want to volunteer. If you are interested, please report to the high school that day by 5:30pm and make sure to wear your club tshirt! I can sign your service log form on Thursday at school.
Thank you all for your help!! Looking forward to seeing you throughout the week.

OPPORTUNITIES FOR COMMUNITY SERVICE
I know you are all pretty busy and sometimes it's hard to put in time for community service hours. Please keep track of all the time you do put in to school shows, community events, and special activities as those hours count for service.
You can also "earn" hours by making donations to charities and participating in school charity events:
Hours can be earned by donating to the canned food drive for Thanksgiving. Please deliver the cans to Mrs. Garcia's office (room 2205) by Tuesday. Needed items are rice, beans, corn, and mashed potatoes. She will sign your community service log for 2 hours for every item donated. For example, if you bring 5 cans you can earn 10 hours. Make sure you have the log with you at that time. She will not sign for hours after the fact.
The Turtle Donation Drive is another way to earn hours. They are looking for donations of beach towels, paper towels, dish soap, hand soap, bandaids, and sunblock. Two hours will be given for each item donated as well. Please remember your community service log so that Mrs. Garcia can sign it for you. (Room 2205)
If you are interested in the Breanna Vergara Foundation walk and color run, please ask Mrs. Garcia for details. This is a fun way to earn hours as well.
When other events come along, check with me to see if they qualify for community service volunteering!

CLOSING OF SCHOOLS 2016-17 !!!
We made it! Another successful year at the Gardens is in the books. Please read below for information about the NJHS breakfast for all 7th and 8th grade as well as information about community service hours for our new members:
You may volunteer at our school or other schools in the county, nursing homes, doctor offices or clinics, child care centers, churches, public park programs, or libraries. Any other locations must be approved by me.
3. If you can volunteer to come in on Friday, June 9 (it is a teacher planning day) from 9am - 12 noon, please confirm with your parents and let me know as soon as possible. You will be assigned a teacher to work with during those hours helping him/her clean, move, and get the classroom ready for the summer.
4. There may be a possibility for select students to work in our school office throughout the summer. You will be answering phones, filing, and working with parents. If you are available for consideration, please check with your parents and verify the days and times you can be here. Let me know as quickly as possible. If you are selected, I will confirm with you before the end of the school year.
5. If your cell phone number ever changes, please notify me so that you won't miss out on NJHS announcements.
1. On Thursday, June 8, at 8:45 am please report to the media center stairs for our annual last day of school breakfast. As by our tradition, 8th grade students will be served breakfast by the 7th grade NJHS students. (Yes 7th graders will get to eat, too.) This is a free activity for all NJHS members. After breakfast, we will have our balloon releasing ceremony and then enjoy the HGMS carnival for the rest of the day.
2. Here is the link to access the community service form log. Print out as many copies as you need and use it to record all of your service activities throughout the summer and through next school year.
