Christmas cookies were given to the faculty and staff at Hialeah Gardens Middle School. We thank them all for their impact on our lives and everything they do for us. Enjoy your Holiday Break, everyone!
HIALEAH GARDENS MIDDLE SCHOOL -- The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding middle level students. More than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character and Citizenship. COMMUNITY SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES
Hey kids. I know that many of you are involved in a lot of different school, home, and church activities. It's hard to participate in some service events because there just isn't enough time. By participating in donation collections, you can also earn hours for the NJHS club. Here are some opportunities for you to earn service hours:
Our school is collecting old cell phones for recycling. If you have one you can donate, bring it to my room for 5 hours.
A few chocolate boxes are still available to sell for 20 hours each.
We also collect supplies for abandoned animals in shelters, particularly dogs. Bring in can food, bags of food, dog toys, collars, or any other supplies for hours, too.
On November 5, we will be participating in Homeless Awareness Day at our school. If you can be at school at 8 am, the first 10 students to respond can earn hours as well.

COMMUNITY SERVICE INFORMATION:
Happy first day of summer vacation. Many of you have asked for information about performing community service volunteer hours. Here is a list of places/activities you may participate in to get credit for service: schools, day cares, medical facilities, nursing homes, libraries, parks, charity programs/walks, sports programs, and churches. If you are thinking of one not listed here, please check with me FIRST for approval. Wherever and whatever you do, make sure you keep track of your hours. They will accumulate all year long and I will ask you to provide the documentation for hours worked in April 2016. I am providing a link with a form you can download and print whenever necessary to record your volunteer service. You may start now and do whatever you can. There is no minimum or maximum. Volunteering is something you do because it comes from the heart. If you have any questions or need further explanation, please contact me via text message. Thank you all for being Hialeah Gardens Middle School superstars!

FOUR MORE SCHOOL DAYS !
I would like to take the time to congratulate everyone on an awesome year. For the 8th graders, you have worked hard and deserve a great summer. We wish you much success in high school. The 7th grade students have also worked hard and are now left with the responsibility of representing our school in a positive and impressive manner.
Please join us for breakfast on Thursday starting at 8:30 am in the media center. As in HGMS tradition, the seventh grade students will be serving the eighth graders but everyone can enjoy the yummy goodies. On this morning, we will also be honoring those that have performed community service hours throughout the school year.
I am looking forward to our annual NJHS end of the year breakfast celebration!

End of Year -- Important Announcements
As we prepare to wind down this school year, please read the following announcements very carefully. Come see me if you have any questions or need help.
- Community service forms with the total number of volunteer hours are due to Ms. Rylands by this Thursday, April 3.
- The top 25 students with the most service hours performed will be awarded at the NJHS induction ceremony April 28.
- On the last day of school, you will have your end of the year breakfast where it will be your turn to be served by the new seventh grade NJHS members.
- That last day is when we have our purple balloon releasing ritual!
- Please read the post below this one regarding Meli's Roses.
Thank you all for your help and cooperation.
Meli's Roses
One of our very own NJHS members has organized a group called Meli's Roses. They work together to raise money to help find a cure for those suffering from Cystic Fibrosis. This is a very serious disease that affects thousands and thousands of people, including Melissa. Meli's Roses needs our help!
We will be collecting a $1 donation from each NJHS member to contribute to her foundation. Please pay me or Ivette Caceres, our treasurer by next Friday, April 10.
A walk will be held on Saturday, April 25, at Graham Park in Miami Lakes. It would be very special if we could all show her our support and walk by her side wearing our purple shirts! Please ask your parents if you can participate and let me know so that I can register you--there is no cost. I need to have an answer from everybody by April 10 as well.
Thanks and God bless.
